United Nations Human Rights Council

Brief

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is an intergovernmental body within the UN system, responsible for the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe. Made up of 47 Member States, the council addresses a wide range of issues including civil and political rights, freedom of expression, racial and ethnic discrimination, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, religious freedoms, and responses to crises like genocide or ethnic cleansing. It has the power to establish fact-finding missions, conduct Universal Periodic Reviews (UPR) of every UN member state’s human rights record, and create Special Rapporteurs to investigate and report on specific issues or countries.

If you have a strong moral compass, a sharper tongue that can ask the right questions and even raise a few eyebrows in the process, and a passion for justice, this committee awaits you. Step in. Speak out. Make diplomacy look effortless.
